We are announcing the deprecation of the version 3 and version 4 Boomi runtime Docker images as of the August 2024 release. This includes the images for basic runtimes, runtime clusters, and clouds. You will need to upgrade your runtime installations prior to the retirement date to continue to receive support.
We have also updated our Docker image support policy for previous versions going forward. The policy is documented within each image: Basic runtime / Runtime cluster / Cloud.
We are deprecating the previous version 3 and version 4 in accordance with the revised Docker image support policy to only support and maintain the previous major version for a minimum of six (6) months once a new major is available. This policy prioritizes security and improvements, while providing an ample window for clients to upgrade to the newer version.
The current major version (version 5) images have been available since March 2024 and provide a number of critical improvements over the previous major versions including addressing security vulnerabilities, closing functional gaps (e.g. SAP connector support), and simplifying installation and configuration.
What do Deprecated and Retired mean?
Boomi customers using a version 3 or version 4 Docker image should plan to upgrade to the latest version 5 release at their earliest opportunity before the retirement date.
There are several differences between version 3 and version 5 that require configuration changes. There are no functional differences between versions 4 and version 5.

Boomi strongly recommends you upgrade to the latest release for the current major version to get the latest security patches, Java updates, and functional improvements. If you do not update prior to the retirement date, your images and Boomi runtimes will still continue to run however they will no longer be supported nor maintained (for example, applied security patches or quarterly Java updates). You will need to update to the latest version to continue to receive support from Boomi related to the Docker installation.
Yes. The version 5 Red Hat (RHEL) images support the SAP JCo connector.
Note the version 5 Alpine image does not support the SAP JCo connector because the SAP JCo driver requires certain libraries that are not available in the Alpine base image.

Version 5 images are available for both Alpine and RedHat Linux. Alpine is generally recommended as a lighter weight image, however if your integrations require the SAP JCo connector, you must use the RedHat image.
