Error

You receive the following warning when attempting to add a new Customer to QuickBooks:

3100 - The name "Some Name" of the list element is already in use.

 

Cause

A Customer, Vendor, or Employee record already exists in the QuickBooks company with the name you are passing in the create Customer request. QuickBooks enforces unique Full Names across the three "entity" record types, including both Active and Inactive records.

 

Solution

In QuickBooks:

  • Look for a Customer or Job with the same name. Be sure to switch the view to include inactive records.
  • Look for a Vendor with the same name. Be sure to switch the view to include inactive records.
  • Look for an Employee with the same name. Be sure to switch the view to include inactive records.

 

If a Customer exists with the same name, it is recommended to modify your AtomSphere Process design to query QuickBooks to determine whether a given name already exists, and then perform a Create or Update call accordingly.

 

If a Vendor or Employee exists with the same name, you will need to rename either the Customer you are trying to create or the existing Vendor or Employee to achieve uniqueness.
