Route Shape Re-Sorts Documents

We bring documents into a process in ascending order for last modified datetime and at the end store the last successful date that was processed.  We found recently that when we use a Route Shape looking at one of the fields in the data, it will re-sort how it processes the data.

Example - documents come in for processing in this order:

Record 1 - last modified date = 11/1/2016 Org 2030

Record 2 - last modified date = 11/2/2016 Org 2070

Record 3 - last modified date = 11/3/2016 Org 2030

We route the documents based on Org.

Coming out of the route shape the documents are now in a new order:

Record 1 - last modified date = 11/1/2016 Org 2030

Record 3 - last modified date = 11/3/2016 Org 2030

Record 2 - last modified date = 11/2/2016 Org 2070

This messes up our final successful datetime stamp in the end.

Is it supposed to do that?

We push both 2030 and 2070 through to the same branch and drop records pointing to other orgs.  Successful datetime stamp gets set off of Branch level 2.
