How do I find out where "Comparator type mismatch, returning Not Equals by default" is occurring

I found over a thousand  "Comparator type mismatch, returning Not Equals by default" in the process log file.  What does this mean? How do  I easily figure out in which of the many decisions shapes this is occurring, and what do I do about it?
