Linux Local Atom on VM - Memory not being freed after process completion

We recently installed a local atom (64 bit Linux Virtual Machine, 16GB RAM of which ~8GB is allocated to Boomi) and ran a set of processes.

After all the processes are executed, I was expecting to see the memory being freed, but Boomi was still consuming 54% of total memory.

I did setup garbage collection as below but it doesn't seem to be working?

Can someone please advise?
