The error may also read something like:
Please define EXE4J_JAVA_HOME to point to an installed 64-bit JDK or JRE or download a JRE from www.java.com.
Locate the JRE that the atom is pointing to by the following:
Browse to the .install4j/ folder under the atom installation directory
For example on windows this may be:
C:\Program Files\Boomi AtomSphere\Atom - YOUR_ATOM_NAME\.install4j
in this folder there will be one or two files named:
If the latter file exists, it takes precedence.
View the file with an editor such as notepad or notepad++
The file will contain the path to your jre. For example: c:\program files\java\jre6
Browse to the jre and confirm that there is a java.exe file under the jre/bin/ folder and that the contents to do not appear to be corrupt or missing.
If the java executable does not exist, the java installation is corrupted or you are unsure, locate an installed JRE or download a JRE from www.java.com
Then modify the pref_jre.cfg (or inst_jre.cfg) file with the path to the correctly installed JRE and save the file.
Try to then delete the atom again per the instructions at this link:
