Viewing document logs for a process that calls subprocess

I have a process that makes another process call.
If the process execution succeeds, I am able to see the process logs (text) and document logs (not sure if this is the right term, but it's where you can see the connector shape and the dropdown to view document data).

However, if process runs and an exception occurs, I no longer see the document logs, even though the process logs show that one or more connector shapes actually ran and performed requests.

This is not a problem in test mode. The process options are also both in General mode.

Is this a known issue, or is there a way to work around it? It's hard not being able to see document data to help troubleshoot and when you need as much details as possible.

Thanks in advance for any insight.
