Where are Platform API call errors captured

I'm trying to use the Boomi platform API to modify EnvironmentExtensions using a POST to<id>/EnvironmentExtensions/<env id>/update

Basically I'm sending content returned by GET<id>/EnvironmentExtensions/<env id>

I get an HTTP 500 error with message "Unspecified fault message"

I just would like to know how I investigate the cause of this error. Should there be log entries in the relevant "container.log" file on the relevant Boomi server. I cannot find any relevant errors in this log
